Here is my review:

This is the first and only film that I have ever seen from the Republic of Macedonia. Naturally, I was very intrigued to see how this one would pan out. I knew nothing about the story, nothing about the film makers and nothing about the cinema of the country, so this was quite the experience.

Its captivating landscapes were a real highlight in this film. Although secluded to one small town, I thought they captured a really nice sense of exactly what was happening in this time and place. Some great cinematography was evident in this film as well, knowing exactly how to capture a beautiful shot.

The story is a very bleak one. It is quite depressing and morbid, and it's resolution is not one for the faint hearted. It follows the story of a young boy, Marko. The life of Marko is not an easy oneas he is bullied harshly at school and by his sister, his dad is a drunk and his mother is oblivious to everything around her. Slowly, Marko decends into a darkness that begins to take over his thoughts, which is really subtly but cleverly shown.

The theme of the entire film itself is bleak, and the final scene is a very impactful image of lost hope and neglect that I think is going to stay with me for a good while.

The acting is absolutely superb in this film. Marko Kovacevic is fantastic as our young protagonist of the same name. He was so natural in his performance and really displayed his pain in a dark yet beautiful way. It's a real shame that he was not noticed more for this film because he has a real talent, but I understand that the Macedonian film industry is quite small. I've seen quite a few debut performances now, especially in coming of age films, most of which I have been very impressed with. Marko is most definitely up the top with these young actors.

Overall, a dark and heavy film, filled with themes that may not sit well with some people. Personally, I thought the film was very well made and displayed a great detail of the effects of neglect and lost hope.

You will like it Mich - it is a great movie indeed. It really influenced me - ever since I saw the movie I think of what happened to Marco and compare it with some events from my own experiences

Nice review. Thanks, I must check it out. However, you may want to proof-read the review again ... there are quite a few errors. For example: "marking a memorable debuts" instead of "making memorable debuts", and "The live of Marco" instead of "The life of Marco" ... and others. Anyway, just figured I'd let you know.
